Lumbini Center for peace Studies
The Lumbini Center for Peace Studies is an institution of higher education devoted to the study of peace, conflict prevention and dialogue between nations, cultures and religions with special attention to Buddhist wisdom in its different variants. The Lumbini Center for Peace Studies is affiliated to the University of Extremadura and will establish collaboration and exchange relationships with other universities and centers of higher education at the international level with specialized programs in Peace Studies and Buddhist Studies.
Unlike other similar programs at the national and international level, the Lumbini Center for Peace Studies will combine the academic rigor and interdisciplinary character of peace studies together with the learning of the main systems of Buddhist philosophy and its various meditation techniques. Another distinctive feature of the programs offered by the Lumbini Center will be the study of teachings on peace and conflict resolution from the perspective of different cultures and religions, thus avoiding any form of sectarianism and always promoting intercultural and interreligious dialogue.

In this sense, in the second part of 2021 one of the most important publishing projects sponsored by the Lumbini Garden Foundation is undertaken. This is the Spanish translation of the Common Buddhist Text (CBT).
Spanish translation project of the Common Buddhist Text.
The project “CBT in Spanish” is to translate into Spanish directly from Pali, Sanskrit, Tibetan, and Chinese sources the anthology “Common Buddhist Text: Guide and Insight from the Buddha”.
This anthology was compiled by scholars of Theravāda, Mahāyāna and Vajrayāna traditions in order to provide the most exhaustive collection of texts that reflects the depth and riches of Buddhism without favouring any particular tradition, thereby being in principle acceptable to all Buddhists, or at least appealing to all Buddhists open to the teachings attributed to the Buddha in diverse schools and languages.
The main objective of the project is to provide both the Spanish academic world and the Spanish speaking public a translation according to the highest academic standards with a selection of canonical texts that facilitate understanding of Buddhist diversity, and represent a more inclusive approach to the Dharma/Dhamma, which seems to be needed in contemporary pluralistic societies. In this way, the project responds exactly to the mission of cultivating a deeper understanding of Buddhism in the context of contemporary life in the sphere of the Spanish language in the world.
The purpose of the Common Buddhist Text in Spanish once published as a book is to be distributed in schools, high schools, universities, libraries, religious centers, as well as cultural institutions throughout the Spanish speaking world. The Common Buddhist Text is being adopted as the main text in courses of Buddhism and university programs of Buddhist studies in some universities of the United States. Our aim is it can also happen in the case of Spanish speaking universities, for which we will carry out an intense work of promotion and presentation of the book in academic forums, both in person and through Internet networks.
